Home protection is something that everyone needs to start thinking about, in my opinion. But don’t just stop at the thinking stage–take action. Hopefully you will never have to use a gun to protect you and yours but there is a quote that I heard that sent shivers through my spine: “I would rather have a gun and hopefully never need to use it than to not have a gun and find myself in a situation where I need one”. Or something like that.

I am a pretty enthusiastic thrift shopper – I like the thrill of the hunt, the uncertainty, and reusing an item with plenty of wear left.
All winter long I looked for toddler snow boots and couldn’t find a single thing and now that it’s summer, they’re everywhere!

I can really only give general instructions in this tutorial because unless you have the same exact number of needles as I do, you’ll have to adjust anyway. Here goes…
Materials
- 1/4 – 1/3 yard home decor fabric/outdoor canvas, etc.
- 1/4 yard coordinating cotton fabric

Last week I made some cards for the 4 graduating girls who go to my church. To get some ideas, I flipped through my online subscription of Cards magazine from Northridge Media – I love how you can bookmark your favorite pages and make notes and how I don’t have to store all the actual magazines.

I have some kitchen storage issues – the main problem is that we have no pantry. I have to use the tops of my cupboards as storage spaces, which doesn’t look very nice at all but I don’t have much of a choice.

I came across this FABULOUS cream cheese frosting recipe in my America’s Test Kitchen Family Baking cookbook and I haven’t made anything else since. It is especially to-die-for on cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies but not so great on chocolate cake for some reason. (I used it for Gus’s caterpillar cupcake cake and it tasted a little funky for some reason…)

After Elliot’s dinosaur birthday cake, I knew I wanted to do a caterpillar for Gus’s first birthday (which was yesterday). I was sick last week and therefore didn’t plan anything before 2:00 the day off so had to throw everything together at the last minute.

I have been on a real card making kick lately, and I’ve decided I love doing series with the same color combos and variations on basically the same design. I can get lots done fast this way and have fewer scraps left over when I’m finished.

My new obsession is handmade earrings. I’m no beading genius, but I don’t have to be with these kinds of earrings.
