After almost 6 years of being the master of my own kitchen (and dishes, unfortunately) I have discovered that my favorite dishwashing “tool” is a very small dish cloth. Sponges are gross, those plastic scrubber things fall apart, and regular sized dish cloths are too big.
I had some terry cloth scraps so I cut them into small rectangles and serged around the edges to make the perfect dish cloth. They’re all slightly different sizes as I was not meticulous in my measuring and cutting, but they’re small (about 4″ x 5″) and easy to wield.
Terry cloth is inexpensive (a few dollars a yard, on sale, at JoAnn) and you can make a whole drawer full of dish cloths. I made 26 with about half a yard, maybe less.
What’s your favorite dishwashing tool?

I agree with you! My favorite is these because they are smaller and work great: http://www.skoycloth.com/
I don’t think i’ve ever thought of making my own dish towels. You are very creative.
Favorite dishwashing tool… the dishwasher! Ha, but seriously I guess it would have to be the Sigg bottle brush for all our reusable drinking bottles. Otherwise it’s so hard to get in the little crevices and way down inside. Love your little dishcloths, maybe I’ll switch to cloths after all our sponges have disintegrated. You’re right, sponges are a bit gross.
SHAMWOW! LOL Seriously. :-) I love it, because I can scrub the dishes, wring out the cloth, and use the SAME cloth to dry the dishes. Sweet!
The dishwasher! LOL!
I love knitted dishcloths. I make most myself about 5″x5″. I also love to give these as gifts!
I agree with Mamie, I love the knitted and crocheted cloths. The individual stitches add a little texture to your cloth and are great for soft scrubbing. Plus you can make them any size you like and I agree with you, Kelsey, the smaller size is much more useful.
Is it legal to even use the words ‘favorite’ and ‘dishwashing tool’ in the same sentence? LOL Other than the dishwasher I’d have to say that I use a good thick dishcloth the most in my kitchen. Terry cloth or anything else absorbent works well for me. Thanks for sharing!
