I had a bunch of great organizing ideas last year, didn’t I? Then why does my house still seem messy… Here’s Day 3’s great idea from last year!

My linen closet has been in serious need of attention. I love organizing, so figuring out a solution for the piles of sheets was a joyful challenge. This is what I came up with:

I love it! Rolling sheets and towels takes up less space, looks neater than piling up different sized squares on top of each other, and makes it easier to grab one thing without making a mess of everything else. I also made little labels to clearly mark the size and used mini clothes pins to attach them.
In the past I’ve been staunchly opposed to impractical organizational solutions like rolling up sheets, tying them with ribbon, and labeling them. When somebody needs a fresh set of sheets, who knows where the ribbon will end up! I’ve finally changed my sorry ways! I would rather have our linen closet look neat and attractive. I can deal with rerolling and tying them if it means my linen closet looks more organized.

***January 2009 update: This organization solution has not been impractical at all. I have been able to keep my linen closet in much better order by taking a few extra minutes to roll and tie my linens. If you were skeptical before, you can rest assured. I’ve been doing this for almost a year and it is maintainable and practical.

This is an interesting tip! I usually bundle mine all together so the matching fitted sheet is neatly tucked inside the flat sheet with the cases included in the bundle, but this would look VERY cute in my closet and may be easier in the long run than doing the old “hotel fold” (that’s how I learned to do it…worked at a hotel in high school!). I just may give this a shot! Thanks!
This is such a fantastic tip! I would never have thought of it. I definitely am going to try the exact same thing!
I have been doing this with towels, but have never tried doing it with my sheets. I’ll have to try it! Thanks.
Great idea, Kelsey. Looks neat and cute. I too will try this. Thanks a lot.

I did this in my linen closet just the other day. I love it! I was also thinking that I would end up wasting time looking for the ribbons and tags, but I agree, it is worth it. When I organized my closet and made the ribbons, I made extra and keep them in a little container just beside the sheets and place the tag and ribbon in there until I need to relabel another set. It really works well! Thanks for the tip!
This is such a great idea! My linen closet is an embarrassment right now, everything is kinda all shoved in there and not even folded (horrible, I know). I am excited to go try this. And it makes it look so cute!!
Fun ideas you have.
For my sheets I fold a set up all but one pillowcase. I then put the set inside the last pillow case so when I go get another set while washing the one I just took off I know that they I will not have to search for the right matches. That way my bed is ALWAYS made even while I am washing.
