THE PRIZE

One reader will win the Fourteener spring-summer hydration pack from Camelbak! ($125)

MY REVIEW

Our Camelbak is another of my top 5 favorite products this summer – it’s great for hiking and camping plus it makes going out and about everyday just a little easier. With all the pockets and built-in hydration, it’s become my preferred purse/diaper bag/day pack.

camelbak hiking

We hike fairly regularly and my boys love drinking from the reservoir – kids can dehydrate do easily and I feel much more at ease knowing they’re staying hydrated in the heat.  I love having water so available and convenient for me as well since I usually don’t drink enough and often get headaches because of it. I’ve found that having the water so accessible means I drink more and feel better all day.

camelbak

Like I said, we use our Camelbak for our every day outings as a family – Boyd wore it on our last trip to Thanksgiving Point so we had water (that wouldn’t leak out over all our stuff) plus storage for our sunscreen, hats, my camera, keys, cell phones, etc. And it’s so much more manly than a purse or even a regular backpack…

camelbak fourteener hydration pack

The new N.V.I.S. Back Panel is one of my favorite features – it keeps the pack up and off your back to keep the air flowing for maximum breathability and comfort for long-term wear.

Another great feature is the insulated reservoir pocket that keeps water cold for hours. I didn’t realize this was an official feature of this pack and was really perplexed to sip cold water after leaving our pack in the hot car for a few hours. The water in the tube gets warm, but once you get to the water in the reservoir, it’s much cooler and stays that way.

camelbak nvis suspension panel

And it just looks cool…which is important, but it has all these great features as well:

  • 100 oz water capacity
  • 1850 cubic inch cargo capacity
  • Fleece-lined pocket for sunglasses or electronics
  • Dynamic suspension harness
  • Semi-load bearing belt
  • Designed to carry extra layers, rain gear, food, head lamp, trail maps, trekking poles
  • Pockets, pockets, pockets!!!

I know many avid hikers and backpackers who swear by Camelbak and now I know why – Thanks Camelbak!

I would love to win the camelback. We live in TN and the fall is our preferred time for hikes. Thanks for offering them.

5 Eric August 23, 2010 at 8:20 am

I would love to win a camelbak! I’m in FL and I walk 3-5 miles 3 times a week. I currently carry 2 water bottles, but I run out less than half way through my walk and the sun taps all my energy by the time I finish without enough water. A camelbak would be frequently used by me.

6 Melissa Blocker August 23, 2010 at 8:25 am

I love the camel backpacks. My husband has one and I would love to not have to carry a waterbottle. We love to hike. Thanks for the great review. I might even get one for my kids too. Then they can carry their own stuff!

7 Charlene August 23, 2010 at 8:33 am

This would be so perfect for a 72-hour kit too. It looks comfortable, stylish, and appears to have a lot of functionality.
I’m not familiar with Camelbak, but I’ll have to watch for them now.

8 Liza Johnson August 23, 2010 at 8:54 am

I have a simple little water pack that I use for runs and hikes. I think this one would become my favorite!

I would be thrilled with any CamelBak hydration pack, but this fourteener looks divine. We walk 3+ miles per day near our house in addition to frequent hikes longer in length. I’m with Kelsey ~ lack of water gives me a headache. Got dehydrated once and required two units transfused. Pray this never happens to me again. Thanks for the chance to win!

I would love to win a camelbak water resevoir. I am expecting my second child September 27th and my 3 1/2 year old Chloe loves to go “walking on mountains” as she calls it. I plan to take Cole, her new brother along and will have so much to carry with two kids that it would be nice to have nice cool water at the ready without having to carry all kids of water bottles and still have lots of storage space and pockets for all the baby goodies and “healfy snacks”… for Chloe, my husband, and I.

Love Vanilla Joy!

I went to Kauai this summer and ran into some friends from my hometown at our resort (wild!) We got talking and discovered we were going to both hike the Napali coast up to a gorgeous waterfall but on different days. After they hiked it (8 miles) they told me to borrow their camelback hydration packs (2) because water was a must as it was very steep and hot. We did and I was so glad, it saved us and I vowed that I must get a camelback hydration pack now when I got home. It was so convenient and light weight.. We could put some small stuff, liike snacks and keys in the little pockets too. So here I am and I would love to win one!
