My sister-in-law and I make these with 100% cotton batting sandwiched between 2 layers of flannel. They are shaped to fit your shoulder. Simply sew around the outside (wrong sides together with batting in between) and then cut perpendicular to your stitching line all the way around (about 1/2 - 3/4 inch apart). Throw them in the wash and they create a cute "rag" look!

Hmmm, I am thinking this may work as an actual cloth diaper and make it look a little cuter... I think that the diaper fabric backed with the cute colored fabric in either cotton twill or flannel might make these easier to pin on!! Thanks for the idea!!!

I've made the same type of burp cloth but purchased the plain burp cloths in the store and then sewed on some fun ribbon and colored thread. They turned out really cute! Yours are adorable too.

I think it is called "birdseye" but I'm not positive. It is 100% cotton. You could use many different fabrics for these burp cloths as long as it's 100% cotton like terry cloth or flannel. The next time I go to JoAnn I'll try to find out exactly what it is. Thanks for the question!

hey there! very cute burp cloths! i'm wondering what kind of fabric you used for them? you called it diaper fabric from Joann's. we don't have that store in Canada, unfortunately. was it cotton? flannelette? a cotton twill or gauze? :)
thanks!

Kelsey, these are SOOO cute. I should make some but don't have a frabric box full of scraps (and yes, I did spell it that way intentionally).

Not sure if my last comment made it - but I have tried to make these in the past and could not get the top to lay flat. I am not following a pattern of any kind but trying to mimic one I got as a gift.

thanks

I am due to become a first time grandma in early June. I would be very interested in making something like this for both daughter and grand daughter!
