I found this recipe on allrecipes.com and then found kiwi on sale for 6/$1 so I decided to try it out. I was pleased with the result – it’s a tart jam that tastes a lot like apple with a hint of kiwi. Yum!

Homemade Kiwi Jam

24 kiwis, peeled and mashed
3/4 cup pineapple juice
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
3 apples, unpeeled and halved
4 cups white sugar

In a large saucepan, combine 3 cups mashed kiwi, pineapple juice, lemon juice and apples. Bring to a boil and then add the sugar; stir to dissolve, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove apples, pour into hot, sterilized jars and seal.

That sounds yummy! GAK! It looks really weird though. That’d be a funny thing to scare your kids with. I’m just having visions of the mom’s cooking on the movie Better Off Dead, LOL

Hmmm… that sounds pretty yummy. I’m on a real canning kick lately, so I might have to give this one a go. But, not before I make some red pepper jelly with fresh peppers from my garden… on tomorrow’s agenda!

Did you find the kiwis on sale this week? If so, where?

Wow! It looks beautiful! I love green! Thank you for sharing this!

Now how about a fig recipe? I have a huge fig tree that is full of figs and don’t know what to do with them!

Sounds relatively simple but what type of apples do you recommend for this recipe?

I used Granny Smith – I think they’re the best for this.
