My kids love to make the jello-gigglers and then use a small heart cookie cutter to cut out heart shaped jello pieces for valentines treats.

I don't know about a filling but I love the heart on top. Maybe some strawberry preserves would be a nice, not overly sweet, filling.

I like the graham cracker idea for young kids. They will have a lot of fun doing this. I also like your heart cupcake--I may try that this weekend.

what about a cream cheese mixture inside - it's not as sweet. Or, pre-baking, mix 4 oz. of cream cheese, 1 egg, 1/3 c. sugar, 1/8 tsp. salt and 1 c. mini choc. chips and spoon a dollop of that on top of your cupcake batter. It will sink down into the cupcake and then you have a delicious filled cupcake that you can frost.

When we did the graham cracker valentine's, we frosted the individual hearts with the "glue" and Naya stuck them on. It took more effort on my part so I think we'll try it your way next time.

Try filling with jam, whipped cream (without sugar if you want something less sweet), pudding (is that less sweet?), or peanut butter...
Looks so cute!
