favorite childrens picture books

We love books. A lot.

There are piles of them around our house. It drives me crazy, but there are worse things…at least my kids LOVE to read. (or look at pictures for now)

the book that eats peopleWe checked this one out from the library this week, and Elliot can’t get enough of it.

It’s a little scary, kind of mysterious, and a tiny bit funny.

Perfect for mischievous little boys.

But make sure your hands are clean when you read it.

You wouldn’t want to get…eaten…

silly_sallyThis is a pretty classic favorite I think. It’s also very…silly. To be expected I think.

We love Audrey Wood, who wrote The Napping House and King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub and I’m sure there are others. She’s a great children’s book author.

i'm not goign to get up todayAnd finally, I Am Not Going to Get up Today!

We love the shorter Dr. Seuss books and lots of others that have the little Seuss symbol on them. Not sure what they’re called, but books like Put Me in the Zoo and The Hair Book and lots of others.

I believe next week is National Library Week, so get out that library card and use it! These are some great titles and authors to start with.

What are some of your favorite picture books?

We can’t seem to get away from Ted Larson. Parts, More Parts, and even more Parts… three separate books, are all favorites. Along with Super Fly Guy!

We just borrowed the Book that Eats People from the library. My husband didn’t like it because it eats a kid named Sam. :)
I’m with Jenny on Mo, although i really enjoy his Elephant and Piggie books as well.
Once Upon a Motorcycle Dude by Kevin O’Malley is great,
Olivia and the Missing Toy by Ian Falconer
Go Away Big Green Monster might be Will’s favorite book… EVER.

Pout-Pout Fish is a cute one, and Dog-ku is very clever. Our bookshelves are stuffed full, but I’ll have to take a look at the Book that Eats People. Sounds great!

I LOOOOVE Mo Willems’ books. Especially the Pigeon series. My son’s favorite is Don’t let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! He loves to tell the Pigeon “No!” ha ha.

Awesome post. I love the Potato Head glasses! :)

This one has a joke that will (I hope!) go over the kiddies’ heads, but I loved It’s a Book by Lane Smith (author of Happy Hocky Family). Great reminder for us in the Digital Age.
