MY REVIEW

britax chaperone infant car seat review

I used to think all infant car seats were pretty much created equally…but that was before I had a really nice one!

Britax sent us the Chaperone to try out and review with brand new baby Linus, and the difference between baby Linus in the car seat and baby Gus in the car seat is night and day. Most babies enjoy car rides and are easily lulled to sleep – Gus cried and screamed CONSTANTLY while in the car, and I am sure it was because the car seat we had was uncomfortable for his little body. Linus is such an angel in the car and almost always falls asleep as soon as we put him in his car seat.

The Chaperone is well padded with high density comfort foam and lots of extra support for brand new infants. There’s a head support that is so slick – there’s a handy mechanism in the back that allows you to move the head support up and down as the baby grows WITHOUT having to take the entire car seat apart.

I love how user friendly this car seat is. Most car seats do require complete dismantling to adjust as the baby grows, and the Chaperone’s adjustment features are so easy to use.

I also love the sun shade – it’s sturdy and will definitely withstand by two “helpers” adjusting it all the time. It comes out to cover almost the entire car seat so baby never has to be in direct sunlight or exposed to wind and snow.

Another great feature is the little level on the back to make sure the car seat is sitting in the safest position in the car.

Other features include

  • True Side Impact Protection
  • Anti-Rebound Bar (on car seat base)
  • Quick Adjust, No-ReThread Harness (my personal favorite)

The Chaperone fits infants up to 30 pounds and is compatible with a whole bunch of strollers, including my Tike Tech jogger!

The car seat releases from the base with a quick pull of a single button handle and it comes with strap cushions to protect baby’s sensitive skin and improve comfort.

There’s also a very convenient height adjustment knob on the base to ensure proper positioning in the car. No rolled up towels or blankets…just a few twists of the knob and you’re set!

The Chaperone has been a bit of luxury in this crazy newborn time. Car travel is so much easier for me and comfortable for Linus which means everyone is happy!

  1. Oh how I love Britax. We borrowed the britax chaperone from my sister in law with our first babe, it was amazing. Hoping to get one of our own for the next babe. Loved knowing our baby was safe and comfy.

  2. We used a Graco carseat for our first daughter and now that the second is on the way I KNOW I want a Britax. My SIL has one and it’s sooo light. That factor alone is what makes me want to purchase one. It gets hard carrying those things around.

  3. I love Britax. My sister had some and we have used them before and they are so much more comfortable than the others I have had. The kid’s heads are comfortable while they sleep and do not end up with their head falling forward. (I used the Britax Marathon). I also love that you can tighten the straps really easy after they get in rather than struggle trying to get the buckles in because it is too tight.

  5. Our baby girl will be here in less than 10 weeks and I have spent MONTHS researching car seats. I think it’s the baby item I was most concerned about. I finally decided to add a Britax infant seat to our registery because I loved the safety features. I was also impressed with the user friendly features. I’m a small person, so I appeciated the light weight design and comfy handle.

  6. I am expecting baby #3 in a few months and just found out our current infant seat is expired! I have been researching seats like crazy and would love to have a Britax. Their high safety standards and the light weight of this seat make it a winner!

  8. Britax is so soft, comfortable, and padded, and safe. Not much room for the baby to move around too much, so a new born will be very comfortabe in them. They are lightweight making them easier to carry, your baby will enjoy their ride, and end up sleeping instead of crying. I will have a couple of new grand babies soon that would really enjoy this carseat!!!

  9. This carseat looks AWESOME!!! I love that it has a variety of colors and that the shade covers them well and is sturdy (I also have 2 great helpers for our soon-to-be baby #3!)

  10. I don’t need a carseat, but my sister-in-law is having a baby soon and really needs one. I love my Britax convertible seat and I’m sure this one for infants is great.

  11. I LOVE Britax! They are so much easier to use then over brands. We also were in a wreck and I felt that the carseat helped to not just prevent injuries in my daughter but also kept her from becoming to ‘shaken’ mentally from the impact. We have baby #3 on the way and really need a nice new infant seat as ours is 8 years old… Would love to be able to buy another great Britax (or win it;-) )

  14. We are expecting baby #4 due in a couple of months and I always wanted a Britax carseat, but just couldn’t afford it. I have only heard rave reviews from everyone that has used one. I think our current car seat is now expired so hopefully we can make it a reality for this little one.

  15. Our old car seat is out of date, and we are hoping to have another little one soon. I would love to try Britax for the comfort and safety that it would provide. Britax would be far superior to our last car seat for sure.

  18. To add to the dialogue about the car seat cover tutorial– my friend just made me one and since she knew I am having a girl, she made the ties with clip-on flowers that double as baby hair clips. Cute and efficient for dressing up car seats.

  21. I have only used Britax on my babes. They are very safe, comfortable and durable (and cute!) I have never used the infant seat- just the Marathon rear facing and later front facing. I would love to try the Chaperone.

  22. Would love to have this. We looked at this so many times over and wanted to purchase one but it just couldn’t be placed in the baby budget. For a mom it’s hard to walk away from that car seat aisle knowing that your having to settle for the middle man and not top of the line. Not everyone can drive luxury. Thanks so much for all that you post and do – I so enjoy your wisdom that you’ve shared.

  27. Britax is known to make the safest carseats- the chaperone was the first infant carseat with side impact protection and the only one with an anti rebound bar

  28. Britax seats are the best! I love the designs and quality of the seats. When I have asked around about seats for my new baby coming in November, Britax seats keep coming up as a well recommended seat by car seat techs. Seems like a great brand to me!

  29. We love Britax! My son and dil are carseat nerds. At the time they took the course in Louisiana, they were the only civilian married couple who are certified carseat technicians. ( Meaning that anyone else who were couples were on the police force, emts, etc.) We really care about the safety of our babies and everyone elses too! She has been known to go up to strangers in a parking lot and tell them their carseat is installed wrong, outdated, facing forward when it still needs to be rear facing, etc. And then offer to fix the problem for them. ( She really does need to learn a more tactful way as she has hurt some feelings but she’s just looking out for our babies!) She will also call someone out on FB for posting a picture where the child is not strapped in correctly. Did you know car seats have expiration dates? I have learned so much from them.

  30. This would really come in handy since I just got rear-ended by an idiot and have to pay for a car because they are illegal immigrants and lied to me about having insurance. It would be handy for two reasons really, I would save money and my baby would be safe against the other stupid people on the road.

  31. Why Britax? I’ll tell you why Britax. Because who was there at the sack of Rome, passing out the sacks? Britax. Who was there at Lexington and Concord, passing out the grapes? Britax. Who was there at Waterloo, passing out the water, then directing people to the loo? Britax. Who was there at Gettysburg, comforting Getty? Britax. Who was there on D-Day, reminding people there are 25 other letters in the alphabet? Britax. Through good times and bad times Britax has been there when we needed it most. That’s why Britax! Because when the going gets tough the Britax gets going! Because when we’re you’re in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and you need a hit, who do you always turn to? Britax. Because when you couldn’t find a date to the prom, who was there? Your cousin Britax. The only things you can count on in this world–is death, taxes and Britaxes. Plus…they make infant car seats that you wouldn’t believe!
