Roll and climb your way to the Himalayan summit in this pencil and paper competition of strategy and good fortune!

Trek12, an exciting roll & write adventure, is a 15-30 minute experience for any number of players ages 8+, which makes it an excellent educational family or party game! Players can choose from two different multi-player modes of varying complexity and difficulty OR a solo mode.

The game uses number filled circles determined by specific dice options to fill an Ascent sheet. Players have two ways to connect numbers for points:

  1. Fixed Lines – a path of connected circles with consecutive numbers in ascending or descending order
  2. Mapped Zones – group of connected circles with the same number

One player (it doesn’t matter who) rolls both dice. Players then have a few options for how to use the result:

  • Use the LOWER number only
  • Use the HIGHER number only
  • SUBTRACT and use the difference
  • ADD and use the sum
  • MULTIPLY and use the product

Each option can be used ONLY four times and is tracked in the upper right hand corner of the Ascent sheet.

When all circles have been filled, the game is over and players score points for Fixed Lines, Mapped Zones, and Bonuses (longest fixed line and largest mapped zone). Penalties are also calculated for any circle that isn’t part of a fixed line or mapped zone. The player with the highest score wins!

The Solo and Expedition modes have different rules for three completely different experiences with the same adventurous mountain-climbing vibe.

The artwork is beautiful and the mechanisms are awesome for gameschooling math. Players have 16 opportunities each game to practice arithmetic (addition, subtraction, and multiplication) plus some real world experience with probability, strategy, decision making, and opportunity cost.  Children get to practice so many important real-life skills while playing Trek12 like communication, teamwork, negotiation, and courtesy. Board games are wonderful for families to learn conflict resolution, compromise, and sometimes forgiveness. :)
