MY REVIEW

Light My Fire

light my fire outdoor meal kit with harnessI’ve been looking for a 72 hr. kit solution for table ware, and this outdoor meal kit from Light My Fire is the perfect solution. You get everything you need to have a meal inside the small triangle, and there are enough pieces that can double to be sufficient for at least 2 people.

We got the harness and the spice box also, so I clipped the whole thing to the outside of my Teton hiking backpack which saves even more of my very limited space.

light my fire outdoor meal kit

In the meal kit you get all the pieces above – essentially two plates, a spill-free cup with lid (300ml), a combined colander and cutting board, a spork, and a small waterproof box.

The meal kit

  • is dishwasher safe
  • floats
  • is made from environmentally-friendly PP plastic
  • is as practical in the city as it is in the wild
  • is micro-wave safe
  • is durable and reusable

We also got the spice box which has 3 separated sections for salt, pepper, and something else with little pour spouts for each. Almost anything is edible with some salt and pepper…and now I’ll never have to leave home without those two things!

The meal kit is sturdy and so versatile, and I love the design of the whole thing. All of the products from Light My Fire come in about 8 bright and fun colors, and they’re fun to look at and use. In an emergency situation or just general camping, their products are sure to be reliable and fun.

GoGirl

go girl urination device

I was a lot THRILLED to run into this product at the Self Reliance Expo last October. What a brilliant idea – who likes squatting? Man, especially in the middle of the night when it’s dark…I’d much rather pee standing up.

With the GoGirl, women can pee standing up. (How many of you DIDN’T try to when you were little…?) No more squatting by the side of the road with your cheeks hanging out for passerbys to see…no more peeing on your socks…no more disgusting bathrooms…no more dreading outdoor bathroom business.

gogirl

From GoGirl’s website:

GoGirl is easy to use.  Just lower your panties, and put GoGirl against your body, forming a seal.  Aim and, well, pee… GoGirl is made with flexible, medical grade silicone.  Dispose of it after use. Or clean and reuse as you like.  (Urine is sterile, but the product can come into contact with contaminates during use, so take precautions when cleaning.) Our patented splash guard eliminates messing and spilling. Once you practice a time or two, using a GoGirl is going to feel like second nature. You won’t be like a man. You’ll just pee like one.

I received two for review – one for my glove compartment and one for my 72 hour kit. It’s small enough to fit in a purse and discreet enough to fit in a pocket. Use it in the wild or in every day disgusting public bathrooms.

To learn more about exactly how to use it, visit GoGirl.com. You can even watch a video. Nothing explicit…just some good explanation.

Make it the birthday present to give this year…all the women in your life will love you.

Coghlan’s Outdoor Accessories

Coghlan’s is my go to brand for outdoor survival products. They have everything in miniature sizes and you could fill up your 72 hour kit with all the necessities just from their selection.

coghlans outdoor accessories 72 hour kit

I received these products for review, and they all went straight into my 72 hour kit:

  • Micro Lantern – 6′ illumination radius, 2″ tall, water resistant, flashing mode, clip on for portable light ($7.98)
  • Flint Striker – good for thousands of strikes, fireproof in solid form, works when wet, any weather, any altitude ($3.98)
  • Mini Shovel with Pick – comes with carrying pouch, folds up to be 6″x4″, tempered forged steel with metal shaft ($10.78)
  • Windproof Storm Matches – burn in rain and when wet, can’t be extinguished by wind, waterproof tub with two strike surfaces ($3.98)
  • Folding Stove – about 6″ square, coated steel, burns any canned fuel (%8.58)

One thing you’ve probably noticed about Coghlan’s products is that they’re inexpensive. You can get a backpack full of essentials for not very much, and they will perform in your emergency or outdoor adventure.

Check out all Coghlan’s fabulous outdoor products!

Hi Kelsey, I liked all the things you said to like! Cute giveaway!

2 Kashena January 31, 2011 at 11:22 am

I live in the pacific northwest, which is a pretty safe place – unless you think about flash flooding, earthquakes, and volcanoes erupting (which I think about often, no matter how unlikely). However, I grew up in the Midwest, where I only worried about tornadoes and thunderstorms, and I had my parents to watch out for me. Now that I’m living on my own out here, I’d really like to feel more prepared for a disaster – and ready to help my neighbors out.

3 Amy Lindner January 31, 2011 at 11:58 am

Living in Central WI this would be a great supply kit for the car. You can never be to prepared (especially in these cold temps).
Thanks!

4 domestic diva January 31, 2011 at 12:49 pm

This would be perfect for my car (especially in the winter).

Being prepare is important to me, I know I’m going to need it someday, but I haven’t collected much yet since getting married. I know I need to do it so I can have peace of mind about it. This would be a great thing to help me keep building up.

My 72 hour kits could use a little spiffing up, and all these things would be perfect. I got all excited looking at them in the post. The go girls would be perfect for our fishing trips, when DH and sons can go “water a bush” , but Mom has to hike back to the car and drive to the nearest outhouse.

What a great giveaway! I love it! I absolutely love outdoorsy things, but HATE the potty problems. How convenient this product is! I also love the “mess kit”. I am a foods teacher, and love having “real” plates to eat on when camping, but it isn’t feasible. Now it is! (and its convenient too!) I am constantly looking for things for my 72 hour kit. LOVE THIS!

I need to update our 72 hour kits. I discovered they are 8 years old. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to eat an 8 year old granola bar. Having some nice stuff in there will certainly help the motivation to finish it out.

wonderful products to give the car evacuation kit a boost after we’ve used it thrice in the last five years living in Houston with hurricanes.

59 Ashley February 1, 2011 at 11:13 am

Wow what great things you have found! Not long after getting married (about 2.5 years ago) my husband told me how important food starage and 72 hour kits were to him. Me, not being of the same upbringing as him, didn’t even know where to begin. It has taken me this long just to find good starage and get some ideas. I have tried to make a 72 hr kit for my family (3 + 1 coming in march) but it seems i get overwhelmed as i feel i NEED everything. I know someday ill have it figured out, I just don’t want to wait till then. The idea is to have it ready now right?!? So it would be great to win your givaway, but even if i don’t i think i might just be investing in many of the things you have listed anway.

Thanks!

PS- i like you on FB also!

84 Jenn Cobia February 3, 2011 at 12:41 pm

Pick me! Pick me! My 11yr old daughter holds “it” in as long as possible when we go camping. She usually ends up in tears, because she finally has to go so bad it hurts, or because she really doesn’t want to go for fear of making a “mess”! This would be so wonderful for her, I think it would help her enjoy camping again! My poor girl needs a GoGirl!!!

Love the Go Girl! It is about time we girls had a product like this!! I’ll keep one in my car and one in my purse! The outdoor meal kit is perfect for my backpacking trips and hiking. It is even great for a picnic at the lake. Much better than paper plates and throw aways…better for the environment too! The survival products and self powered radio/flashlight etc. are the perfect additions to the trunk of my car as well as my hiking pack. I’ll need them for my trip to Colorado this spring so please choose me :) Kathy
