We love dragon everything – books, action figures, costumes… It was high time we found a favorite dragon game!

Haba has been one of our favorite game makers of all time, especially for preschool/early elementary games. They are so colorful, have lovable themes, high quality components, and are so fun to play!

In Dragon’s Breath, players choose a dragon and a corner of the board. Players try to liberate as much of the treasure as they can, but the catch is… it’s trapped in a column of ice!

The Dragon figure starts with the first player and the next player gets to choose a colored gem. The rest of the players choose their gem color in turn order. Then the player with the Dragon figure lifts the top ring off the ice column.

Because the ice column is so full of treasure, some will fall off when the ring is lifted. Players take any gems that fall in their chosen color and add them to their personal stash beneath the board. Any gems that fall in the holes around the ice column are the property of Daddy Dragon.

After all the rings have been lifted and all the treasure collected, the gems are counted and the winner announced! Daddy Dragon usually gets the most gems, so the game can be played cooperatively or individually. Either way, it’s a lot of fun!!

Dragon’s Breath is a great way to introduce some early math skills like estimation and counting plus color recognition, cooperation, and imaginative play.  It would fit in well with a variety of history and language arts units as well!

Dragon’s Breath has become a new favorite that gets played nearly every single day.  We love it and know your family will too!  Thanks to Haba for sharing with us!
