In the past I have been a curriculum gal when it comes to math. Using games felt like so much more work! But I love that games show kids how math is practical and useful in real life and playing games teaches them so much more than arithmetic skills. Also, I used to collect playing cards and I have some really fun decks, and it’s fun to use them for school! We’re also getting into lots of other kinds of games that we play and really focus on the math aspects, more on that to come!

Today we played this Spiral Math game. It was great math facts practice for all my kids (grades 7, 5, 2, and K). It was nice to take a break from our everyday math curriculum too.

Here are some other fun math game ideas that are played with a deck of cards.

We’ll be trying all these out in the coming weeks to keep math fun and going over the summer. What’s your favorite math card game???
