*SCABS’N’GUTS* Human Body Board Game

If you haven’t been here before, I am a homeschool mama to six boys. It’s wild and crazy around here, and games are one of the best tools I have to help my boys learn with their whole hearts, minds, and bodies.

Kids love hands-on learning, and games are the easiest way I’ve found to turn learning into a more sensory and social experience.

Science is my weakest subject as a teacher and I rely heavily on games to help me teach my boys about things I don’t know a lot about!

We love studying the human body, every time we come to it in our topical rotation, and SCABS’N’GUTS is one of our favorite games to play.

Everyone picks a token. Choose between:

  • Timothy Tummy
  • Lee & Lou Lungs
  • Ms. Lilly Liver
  • Dr. Betsy Brain
  • Buster Guts
  • Mr. Harry Heart

Players move around the board, drawing cards and either answering questions or performing actions. If the question is answered correctly or the action is performed successfully, the card indicates how many spaces to move forward.

Each space on the board tells which kind of card and category to read from.

The Action cards include things like: “Pretend to cry and try to produce even the tiniest teardrop. Try thinking of something sad, that will help.” If successful, the card tells you to move ahead one space.

Everyone has to try!

Players take turns reading the questions aloud to each other so everyone learns!

Kids absolutely LOVE trivia, and this game is a little bit silly and doesn’t shy away from things most boys will find so so funny.

This game gets lots of laughs, plenty of factoids, some movement, social interaction, and lots of fun!

Trivia games are so much fun and such a great way to add some fun to a science unit. The human body is such a fascinating subject of study, but it can be heavy and complicated with lots of big words and ideas. We love this science game to keep it light and fun and learn a ton while playing. Check it out for your next human body homeschool unit!
