I just wanted to give some ideas about fun things to do to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The holiday is not one of our most popular or widely celebrated, but there are many fun things you can do with your family to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day.

I like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day through food! That’s why we have holidays, right? In our society, food is big part of any celebration. I like to serve as many green foods as possible on St. Patrick’s Day. Here are some ideas.

Breakfast
Cinnamon rolls with green frosting
Green French toast (put food coloring in the egg mixture)
Green eggs (and ham, if you like)
Green apples, honeydew melon, kiwi

Lunch
Green macaroni and cheese
Green tuna sandwiches

Dinner
Broccoli, peas, green beans, zucchini, celery, bell pepper
Green salad
Green mashed potatoes
Green Jello

Another fun thing we like to do with food at every holiday is make sugar cookies together. Cookie cutters come in hundreds of different shapes, so I keep my eyes open throughout the year for special seasonal cookie cutters. For St. Patrick’s Day, we like to do shamrocks especially. Other St. Patrick’s Day cookie cutters are less easy to come by. We make up different colors of frosting and we all decorate cookies together. It can be somewhat messy, but that’s part of the fun. A great thing about this activity is that everyone can participate, even small children. Oh, and don’t forget the sprinkles!
