Games are a great way for kids to get some extra reading practice in, especially if they are struggling or resistant readers. Almost all games require some amount of reading, and it’s the kind of reading kids WANT to do!

Fluxx games are the best reading gameschooling games because there is so much high-level reading involved. Unless you’ve played the game a million times and have the cards memorized (which you would have had to read them to do…), every card must be read. Most cards need to be read aloud, which is even better reading practice!

Reading aloud is something struggling readers don’t like to do usually, but it’s a good practice because you can’t skip words or muddle through. Reading during game play is really a fantastic way to practice reading skills!!

Just look at all those words!

The new Star Trek Voyager Fluxx game is a must-have for my sci-fi friends. Star Trek lovers, you know who you are!

Even if you’re not a die-hard Star Trek fan, this is still a really fun version to play and it has really challenging sciency-space words.

Just like other Fluxx games, the winner is the card to meet the Goal Card requirements by having the Keeper cards listed on the goal card in play. But new rules are constantly changing the game, so you have to read and keep up!

There are Creeper cards to keep players from winning, and Action and Surprise cards to keep everyone on their toes. And all of them stick to the Star Trek theme, it’s a very thorough and committed Star Trek game for fans of the series!

The illustrations are top-notch and this game is just so creative and silly and fun, it’s definitely one of my kids’ favorites. All the versions are different enough and the themes are so fun, having a half dozen in a gameschool collection wouldn’t be too many, not even close! We’re working on building up our collection, it’s a super fun party game and the science versions are actually very educational.

Check out my review of the Human Anatomy Fluxx version that we also love!

Fluxx games are so fun for kids 8+ and definitely check some gameschool boxes. The game requires some collaboration, strategy, and social skills. Games are the best tool I’ve found to help my kids work on so many different skills and have fun doing it.
