Ocean Unit Study and *GIVEAWAY*

I am beyond excited that there’s a new addition to Julia Rothman’s anatomy collection and it is every bit as lovable as the other titles in the series.

I love to use these books as a spine to build a science study unit around. The books are organized by topic so it’s easy to pull other books, videos, and activities to create a whole unit. The books cover a wide variety of information so they make for a thorough and fantastic spine!

This week we’ve been using Ocean Anatomy to learn about starfish. They are beautiful and fascinating creatures. We learned that sea stars live on the ocean bottom everywhere! I thought they were more of a tropical creature… I also didn’t know there were so many different kinds. The ocean sure is a magical place.

The drawings are simple and unique in a fun, colorful, whimsical style that my children love. We always do a few water color paintings for each unit, and her books are perfect to use as a model. My kids are easily able to create drawings they love using hers as a guide.

We’ve decided that Coral Reefs are the next topic we’d like to study, and there are so many other great ones to choose from for the future including:

  • General ocean information
  • Fish
  • Whales
  • Beaches
  • Ocean floor
  • Artic ocean life
  • Fishing/tourism/commerce

Beautiful nonfiction books are an important part of my homeschool library, and Ocean Anatomy and the other Anatomy books meet all my criteria. They are so so beautiful, and are full of ideas and images to feed a child’s mind.

I’m giving away a copy of Ocean Anatomy with the help of Storey Publishing and Julia Rothman. Find me on Instagram to enter to win. Good luck!!
