Colorama Board Game for 3+

Toddlers love board games too! Ravensburger makes fantastic games for the 3, 4, and 5 year old crowd, which is a tough market to serve. The games have to be simple, mostly cooperative, but colorful, fun, and engaging, all of which describe Colorama

We have a special game table just for the toddlers, and one of their favorite things to do is sit right here and play Colorama together. They are learning to take turns thanks to all the game playing practice, and are getting really good at recognizing and naming colors and shapes.

There are several different ways to play the game, but their favorite starts with putting all the pieces ON the board. They each take two colors (this division was their idea) and put them all in their places.

They are thrilled to complete that task every time! It gives them such pride to work together and see that colorful board all filled in.

Then the turn taking part begins – they roll and pick the piece of the same shape and color as what the dice show. Sometimes. Sometimes they make the dice show what they want to take and then take that piece. They have real serious color preferences…my blondie wants all the reds first! But it works because they both get this particular “house rule” and are good with it.

Rolling the dice is the most exciting part…he gets really into it. He’s seen big brothers rolling a lot of dice and wants to be just like them!

There are other variations, and the one we’re not quite ready for requires them to have a certain number of randomly selected pieces and roll until they are able to place all their pieces on the board. This variation will take more patience and autonomy than they have at this point, but it’s perfect because they are having fun with it in just the way they’re ready for now. They’ll be ready to play the more advanced versions in a year or two.

The levels of increasing difficulty enable the game grow with the child, which is perfect for toddlers who change and develop so quickly.

Colorama is the most frequently played game by these two at our house, and their older brothers jump in to play with them. They love it and we think your toddler will too!

{I received this game to facilitate this review, and my opinions about it are completely sincere and honest.}
