If you’re a fantasy, creature loving family, today’s game is for you.

If you like simple, fun, replayable card games, today’s game is really for you!

Of all the new games we’ve had the pleasure to play this year, Dragonwood is one of our favorite just-for-fun games. The dragon/goblin theme is a favorite of my boys, play is competitive, the rules easy to learn (which makes it a great game to take to parties and teach to friends), the game has great replayability, it’s great for travel, and it’s lots of fun!

Players collect cards and use them to Capture cards in the Landscape by Stiking, Stomping, or Screaming (playing cards in sets, runs, or colors) for a chance to roll the dice and capture Creatures for points or Enhancements for special abilities. The game ends when either 1. both dragons have been captured or 2. the deck has been played through twice.

You know I love a game where there’s good player interaction (especially if players can thwart each other!) and this game has that element plus bunches of different strategies that can be used to try to win the game. It’s not overly complex, which is what makes it such a great, replayable game, but it’s got a good combination of chance and strategy that makes it fun to play over and over again.

Game elements are a big deal with gamers, and Dragonwood has really nicely illustrated cards and those super fancy red dice.

This game has quickly become one that gets played several times each week and is always a recommendation when people ask my kids about their favorite games. It’s inexpensive, very nice quality, and lots of fun to play! We love it, and we think you will too!
