My Daily Chores

I’ve tried to get more organized lately, a never-ending task. It is a slow process, for sure. One thing that I really want to do better at is keeping the house cleaner from day to day, a goal that I’m sure I share with many fellow mothers. In the past, I haven’t been so good at consistent cleaning, but I have come up with a new schedule for myself that is working better than other things I’ve tried.

I give myself tasks to do each day of the week. I have all my tasks sorted by days of the week in a small file box so that I have reminders of the most important things for me to accomplish each day (most of the tasks involve cleaning, but I include other weekly tasks in addition). My schedule goes like this:

  • Sunday: Journal, meal planning, couple & family council, personal study
  • Monday: Clean bathrooms, water plants
  • Tuesday: Create shopping list
  • Wednesday: Mend, clean stove and microwave
  • Thursday: Sweep and mop all hard floor surfaces
  • Friday: Balance checkbook, dust
  • Saturday: Vacuum, clean cars

I also try to do a load of laundry each day so that it doesn’t get to be unmanageable. Laundry isn’t a huge issue for our family because there are only three of us, but as our family grows I think doing a load a day will be the best plan for keeping laundry build up to a minimum.

As our family grows, I will be able to spread the larger chores throughout the family. But for now, while I am the main housekeeper, this organization system is working well for me. If nothing else, I get at least these things done on a weekly basis. Happy cleaning!

I am so glad that I found this blog…a lot of very useful info here. I recently left my job and I’m new to being a stay-at-home mom. I’ve been trying to figure out how to organize my days. Thanks for sharing your ideas. ;~)

I hate the load every day thing – my husband tries to do this. Then clothes linger in the drier getting wrinkled or in the washer getting spoiled.

I don’t like the fact that it’s a chore that never, ever ends. There’s never a feeling of accomplishment. It’s always hanging over your head.

I prefer Laundry Thursdays. Get it all done in one day -washed AND put away. That way I don’t have to think about it for the rest of the week.

I love the idea of setting a task or two each day – it makes the whole process seem a little less overwhelming

i need to do somethign like this. I tried before and it failed i think tis because i put too much into it. too many thigns for each day. it would be so easy to be caught up and then start implementing that.
