Finding a fun way to teach anything language arts is the way to go. Intentionally learning new vocabulary can be…dry…boring…but games make it fun!

We love Super Sleuth to learn about different kinds of words: Synonyms, Antonyms, Homophones, and Multiple-Meaning Words. Each card has a question, answer options A-D, and the answer concealed on the front of the card. Sleuths use the magnifying glass to uncover the correct answer and get badges for every card type they get correct.

This game has helped my boys with their writing – they didn’t know what any of these kinds of words were by name before playing! They did know that there are words that mean the same thing as other words and that two words can sound the same but have different meanings, but they didn’t know what to call them, and I didn’t think to teach them! Now that they’re aware of these new kinds of words, they are able to use them more in their writing.

That’s what I love about Gameschooling, kids can learn all kinds of things that we may not think to teach!

Once a week or so they pull the game out for language arts work and have fun sleuthing around about words. It’s an excellent game to add to your homeschool collection!

Thanks to Educational Insights for sharing it with us!
