One of the reasons I wanted to educate my children at home was to give them more opportunities to learn, practice, experience, and love the arts.

My own arts education was severely lacking – I took some classes in college and have continued to work on educating myself and developing skills in these areas ever  since.

Because of my own experience, feeling like I COULD NOT draw or learn to draw or be artistic, we draw a lot as part of school.

My kids have learned to enjoy it more as they have improved, taken classes, and practiced, and I am always on the look out for resources to help me teach this subject that I’m weak in myself.

A friend told me about the Createures Drawing Game, and I loved it immediately. I love the creativity it encourages but also the awesome but simple drawings on each card to HELP kids get started. I love that it mixes copying with creating something new and unique.

It’s a “game” with no rules – you can use the cards however you want! We love to follow the game creator’s idea, to draw one of each kind of card (1. Habitat 2. Detail 3. Small Subject 4. Medium Subject 5. Large Subject) and create a drawing that combines all those elements and animals into one fantastical, mythical, imaginative creature.

My kids LOVE to write and make up stories and plays and games, and these cards have helped them so much to illustrate their ideas. Sometimes kids have so much going on in their heads, they need a little visual help to get it down on paper, and this game has helped all my kids practice and gain some confidence at taking something familiar and make it into something of their own creation.

Artistic skills and drawing practice have become so important to me as a mom and teacher to help my kids discover and enjoy, and I honestly love, love, love this drawing deck/game as a resource to facilitate this kind of learning in my home!!!

{Thanks to Createures for sending us this game to facilitate our review. We love it!}
