DIY Left/Right Recognition Book

Learning left from right is a skill we’re still working on around here. My 3 and 5 year olds need some more practice so we made a little book to help us out.

I used Picasa to edit the photos, it’s what I use for all my photo editing because I haven’t gotten around to learning Photoshop yet. It’s free and really easy to learn.

Pick a photo that has an object/person clearly to the left or right and crop just that part of the picture out. On one page, state what the object is.

Then show the entire photo and ask if the object is on the left or right.

With lots of pictures!

My boys LOVE this little book and they’re getting really good at left and right. It makes things a little easier sometimes, and it’s high time we get it down once and for all.

Make your own book and get practicing!!

That is a really cute idea. I’ll have to try to remember that when my daughter is old enough. :)

What a great idea to make the learning very personal! I’m definitely doing this with my daughter (who is a lefty, and switches back and forth between both hands often). She always asks “is this my left hand? is this my right hand?”. Thank you for sharing!
