Clean up on NV-140

I first came across this product about 10 years ago. I worked after school, weekends, and summers at the local pharmacy, and the first time I saw this product I thought it was a joke. I asked my boss, the pharmacist, about it and he told me it was no joke, and Boudreaux’s Butt Paste was his favorite diaper rash cream and the one he recommended to his customers/patients.

Now as a mom with my own first hand experience with diaper rash and other unspeakable disasters, Butt Paste is my first choice, too.

Not only does this cream have a memorable, descriptive, and kind of hilarious name, it works wonders on little bum cheeks.

My favorite thing about this cream, besides how well it relieves diaper rash and soothes irritated skin, is the scent. I hate the zinc oxide smell so many other diaper rash creams have. Butt Paste smells fresh and clean – it just has a nice, pleasant scent.

Butt Paste goes on so easily and it also washes off easily, and you don’t have that residual scent on your hands for hours after use. It also comes in a variety of containers and sizes so you can stash a tube or jar in all your most convenient places. You can get Butt Paste in 1 oz, 2 oz, 3 oz and 4 oz tubes, a 16oz jar, or a single foil pack.

Speaking of all this Butt Paste and diaper rash business, is there anything worse than a diaper disaster?

The worst diaper disaster I can think of to date happened while our family was driving from Utah to Oregon three summers ago. Gus was 3 months old, and we had just reached the halfway point of our 850 mile drive. We had stopped for lunch and a quick rest for Boyd, who drove pretty much the whole way while I handled the kids.

We got back on the road and had only driven a few miles on the NV-140 when I smelled something…sickly sweet. I looked around to find the offending object and was smacked in the eyeballs by this:

We had to pull off to the side of the road and clean up this mess with cars whizzing by. It was a 2-person, 4-hand, dozen-wipe diaper job, and that car seat was never quite the same.

The thing about newborn poo is…it smears. It is almost unreal how a little bit of poo can end up all over a baby’s entire body before the job is completely cleaned up. Getting the onesie off…now it’s in his hair and on his face…there is just no end to the messiness.

It took us a while, but we got him and the car seat…mostly…cleaned up. For the rest of the drive we hoped and prayed that the diapers would hold it all in the next time…And what a good thing I took a picture! Now we can remember this experience with fondness forever. Or at least until a diaper disaster that beats this one…
