*REVIEW* Hot Wheels Turbo Tubes

Introducing…another super cool building toy cause we just can’t get enough of them! Seriously, I know I’ve said it before, but with a house full of little boys running around, Mega Bloks are my sanity.

The tubes are each an easy $10 and there are 6 different sets to choose from: Bad to the Blade, Fat Fish, Twinduction Yellow, Bone Shaker, Twin Mill III, and Twinduction Blue. Each comes with customizable parts for unique rebuilding possibilities (every builders delight) and a collectible Team action figure.

We popped our tubes open (they LOVE the tubes and would NOT let me throw them away. They store their cars there when not in use.) and my builders got right to work.

The sets are geared for kids ages 5 and older, which is just right. My 4 year old (he turns 5 in May) in the green striped shirt built his with just the right amount of struggle. It was tough for him, but not so hard he couldn’t do it. Mega Bloks stretch him just enough without discouraging him, and I expect he’ll be whipping through these sets by the time he’s 5. He LOVES the challenge and the satisfaction of completing each set he builds, and with the excellent, accurate, and colorful “maps” as my boys call them, building these speedsters was fairly quick and very fun.

Elliot will be 7 next month and he builds his sets faster but with just as much enjoyment. He builds with no help at all from me and loves to do it again and again.

After they’re built, it’s down to business. Elliot chose the Fast Fish set which is a really cool looking car with a macho flip top. We love the moving parts!

Gus’s Bad to the Blade speedster quickly became a fighter plane, zooming and darting around…

…it even transformed into a super secret missile. And then we were off to the race track.

The wheels on these cars spin so nicely, they zoom super fast along the floor. These three raced their cars for ever and I was pleased to see how straight they drove – it meant we weren’t getting cars pounded into the walls! They’d crash often and sometimes a few pieces would pop off which made the game all the more fun.

Hot Wheels Turbo Tubes are in stores now – I’m thinking they’ll make great Easter basket surprises! Which set do you think your builder would love?

{Thanks to Mega Bloks for sponsoring today’s review!}
